Because new hedsets are not shiny objects, nor are they Jamba Juice or Macaroni Grill. Key point: You'll notice that he promised to call his lenders, not to actually repay any dirty pennies. He'll negotiate a payment plan, then blow the blog money on trinkets as usual.
